Drow on the surface

I heard from some lore savvy people that Calimshan is one of the regions in Faerun with most drow activity on the surface. If this is correct, will players be able to represent drow in Calimshan or will there be NPCs who represent the drow on the surface?

If that is what lore says, it would at least be cool to have some NPC drow raids on the server.

There's been talk about the potential of Drow Dungeons, and the ugly challenges those darkies provide in a setting, but I don't know if anything final has been decided.

It will be NPC's, as we will not be having drow as a race. There will definitely be some opportunities to fight Vhaerunites, however, and a few npc events here and there to reinforce the idea of how dangerous drow are.

I personally am against having half-drow as a race even though they are more common in Calimshan, but I am not against using them as well as Vhaerunite NPC's. It is my personal opinion that if we allow them as a race, people will complain about not having drow as a race. Most are just as conniving as drow anyway, and their numbers are even lower perhaps than the drow race presence in Calimshan. Ultimately it is up to team discussion but as most half-drow in the area are still Vhaerunites, and still part of the culture, and that culture is so small compared to other presences in the nation, it is mostly unthinkable to allow them in my opinion. There is also talk of making the entire elven race application only, or at least warning players in the character creation screen how extremely dangerous it is to be an elf in Calimshan. I hope it promotes some Eldreth Veluuthra influence, as that particular group would have every reason to hate Calishites with a fierce passion.

I'd like to remind players that we -want- your opinions and that we will take them under heavy consideration, whenever we mention our plans to the community.

I'm not all that familiar with Calimshan lore, but I would imagine that adventurers being in it for the thrill seeking, that the fact that it is dangerous is a bonus. And I don't think it is enough reason for making any race app just because the region is not favoured by them.

Why would "x race" go to Calimshan? Well, leave it up to the player. Unless we are talking Orogs, Imaskari, Fey'ri and races like that I think that it is best to leave it up to the player.

As for half-drow. The reason that I ask is that it is one of the races that I like to play, but I agree that if drow will not be playable that half-drow shouldn't be playable either.
