Will this affect Sands of Calimshan?

Post  Orlitoq on Sun Jun 29, 2014 5:39 pm

ToA/PoS is changing hands and looks like some of your own team will be running it. How, if at all, is that going to affect this server's development?

The Sands group is well-aware of the changing of the guard. The entire current staff has been approached and informed via Skype. Some have expressed interest in working on ToA and possibly expanding into Calimshan so that the areas built won't go to waste. Others have RL commitments that prevent them from participating at this time.

Rest assured that the core concepts and principles that were planned for Sands have not been discarded. Some will be implemented on ToA. Some will have to be revisited, as the ToA systems are already in place. Regardless, this project is by no means dead! It has simply become part of something bigger, and hopefully, more fun for everyone. Smile

While nobody's completely certain about what will happen in the future, generally speaking you can probably assume this'll be a good thing for Sands, as honestly this will probably give us all a bit of a kick to start doing stuff again.

Whether Sands and PoS are going to be all one server is still not known. It's a distinct possibility though, as it may be easier for us to simply focus on the already-running server (PoS), and then expand on it with our work on Sands. Or they might remain two separate servers. Who knows.

Point is, the servers will be working together. You can think of them as sister-servers if you like. The children of ToA. :P

It took a year to release a pack of screenshots of areas that sucked.

Ooh, a troll! ^.^ I've never had one of those before. :) You even created a troll-account and everything, too. That's cool.

Well, it's not like you're wrong, I suppose. We all knew this server wasn't a guaranteed thing from the start. We're still working on it though, despite the slow progress, and like I said, the majority of stuff IS done. It's just that last hurdle.

Honestly, given the fact that the majority of the team don't actually even play NWN2 anymore, and are just doing it because they want to help the community, complaining at us really doesn't help anything.

EDIT: I just got told of for feeding the troll. ;_;

Unfortunately, there seems to be a bit of miscommunication.

At this time, there are no plans for any joint venture with Sands, be it codeveloping, merging or what not. I just wanted to clear that up as this post has created a bit of confusion.

Long story short, ToA/PoS and sands are still two very different places. Sorry for any confusion folks.

Are those staff members who are working on ToA/PoS dropping from the Sands server staff to focus on their own server?

There was talk of it, but no. To the best of my knowledge, things are looking largely the same as they were before.

Honestly I find it a bit disappointing, since a joint venture could have been amazing, but things are as they are. Though Foo and Holyman were looking to do so, as I'm sure you know, apparently they weren't happy with how things were turning out in ToA and so have since come back to us.

It's not anyone's fault particularly, just differences of opinion on how things should be run.

I'm not quite sure how the state of things in ToA is looking, so maybe this will change, but for the moment this whole affair no longer has much to do with us.

Okay.

As HM had explained to the rest of us, there was an invitation for anyone on the Calishite team to put in an application to be part of the new ToA staff (and you still are, of course Wink. Not ever any talk of a merger, though.
