I'm working on a Frequently Asked Questions post that, when the time comes, will be posted for players to see in some kind of news/announcement section. I have a bunch of questions already, but now I want to know from your perspectives - what are the first questions you ask about a new server you've just heard of?

"What measures (if any) have been taken to stop corruption in the Staff? This is hardly the first server to start with the promise of being different..."

A few off the top of my head:


  • What is the setting?
  • Why did you pick this setting?
  • Does this setting have custom Lore?
    If so, Why?
  • What is the conversion rate of in-game days to real life days, and how does that effect the in-game calendar?
  • Rules for PvP
  • Guidelines/rules for character building?
  • Will there be Perma-Death?
    If So, how is that handled?
  • What is the level Cap?
    Is that a soft or hard cap?
    Is than an Experience cap, or a true level cap?
  • What races are available?
    Why those, and not others?
  • What classes are available?
    Why those, and not others?
  • Will new custom classes/races be added in the future?
  • Does this server have custom Spells/Feats/Skills?
  • How much of an impact is my character allowed to have on the world?
  • Can player plots, and DM events take the world in a direction that is unconnected to cannon?

That's an easy question, but mercenaries often to be a not good enought roleplay if they're henchman NPC.

So, most of these have found their way into the FAQ by now. Anything that is missing is because I don't have the answer or I haven't had time to include it yet. Razz

I'm hoping to post what we have up for the community to see either tonight or tomorrow. It will be an evolving thing, so Q&As will be added to it as we go. I'll also be adding links to relevant pages once those are created too.

Is it possible to indent the answers to each question so that it is easier to parse all that information?

That does help break it up quite a bit for those Questions with short titles. Thank you for giving credit and consideration to my concerns.


Would an alternate font colour for the questions, but not the answers, help break up that text even more?

It would, however I'm not going to attempt it as it took me about 6 goes just to get what's already there working. Razz

It kept messing up with all the BBCode stuff, silly forumotion. I dread to think what it'd do if I added colours as well as everything else. Probably turn everything green, no doubt. xD

  • If my character gets perma-killed, what happens to him?
    What happens to his properties, gold, and belongings?
  • Is there a character retirement mechanic in place?
    If not, do you intend to initiate one?
    What is the benefit of "retiring" a character, as opposed to just scraping them?
  • Is there an RCR system that lets you use some portion of a character's XP towards the creation of a new Character?
    If so, at what percentage is XP transferable?
